About the presenters
John Bernero is a Sr. Product Development Engineer with extensive experience translating surgeon ideas into orthopedic products. Starting his career at Sulzer Orthopedics, his skillset was instrumental in designing a hinged knee system that gave surgeons and patients an orthopedic implant solution as an alternative to amputation. John also led the design efforts on the cemented baseplate for Sulzer’s flagship knee system. John then joined Amedica Corporation as a Product Development Engineer and quickly advanced to the position of Director of Product Development. One of John’s major accomplishments was helping Amedica to bridge the gap between ceramics technology and medical applications in orthopedics. During his tenure, John led design efforts in the Spine, Hip and Knee segments, most notably the Altia total disc replacement. He also oversaw the launch of two spine implant systems, incorporating the company’s proprietary silicon nitride ceramics technology. John recently joined M3 Design adding a unique perspective to the company’s holistic approach to designing healthcare products that significantly improve stakeholders experiences. In this capacity, John works with a range of clients in the health care sector, from start-ups seeking to launch innovative products to top-tier medical device manufacturers offering proven devices. John has a Biomedical Engineering degree from Northwestern University.
