Touchless Dispenser torn down

The ubiquitous touchless soap dispenser was selected for this teardown to better understand how it detects a hand, how the mechanism functions, and why it is so important to have the soap and tag colors match.

The outer housing consists of a molded plastic base that mounts to the wall and a plastic flip-down cover.

The base holds the latch for unlocking the cover, along with the controller / dispensing mechanism.

The cover contains two snap-in windows for viewing the soap bottle, a light pipe for routing the LED status light to the front of the dispenser, and a magnet to let the controller know when the cover is open so it won’t dispense product.

Both the base and cover are simple molded parts with minimum undercuts that require tool action…..
