Litrex had a vision that OLED, PLED and LED flat panel display manufacturing could be dramatically improved by utilizing precision ink-jet printing technology to replace existing methods. Major players in the flat panel display market expressed a need for systems that could work with large substrates with minimal material waste. The challenges were daunting: extreme accuracy and repeatability, dealing with a wide variety of potentially hazardous organic and inorganic materials and transport media, critical print head alignment, and ease of serviceability. M3 took on the design of the print head arrays, XY positioning systems, electronics packaging, and overall system packaging. Working with Litrex over multiple generations of the system, the technology was refined and enhanced, and resulted in a system that could handle up to a 2m x 2m glass substrate while maintaining micron accuracy at speeds equal to or better than competitive products.
