Streamlining Data Management for Next-Generation Networks

As networks grow more complex, efficient data management becomes crucial to avoid blind spots in security and monitoring. Thus, it’s incredibly important that the hardware needed to facilitate the flow of large-scale data be as efficient and reliable as the software. Following the success of our collaboration on the Vision X (link to case study), Keysight sought out M3’s assistance in designing their new 1RU network packet broker, the Vision 400.

Thermal

The Vision 400 processes 400 gigabits of data per second,necessitating innovative thermal management. Multiple fans and custom heat sinks were integrated into the design to dissipate heat effectively. The final design underwent rigorous thermal analysis to ensure optimal performance.

EMI

Managing Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) in a high-speed device poses a significant challenge. Traditional EMI solutions proved inadequate, so a custom EMI enclosure was developed to maximize airflow while preventing EMI emissions. Collaboration with Keysight’s supply chain was instrumental in perfecting the fabrication process.

The Details

Enclosure Design

Every millimeter of the Vision 400 is fine-tuned to enclose each component within the confined space of a compact 1RU form factor. Tolerance analysis was meticulously carried out to ensure the highest yield in manufacturing. The final design included numerous heat sinks, fan FRUs, custom boards, and power supplies, all within a 1RU sheet metal enclosure.
